CommentsHello! I was very interested to read about "pirate radio," a phrase I'd heard when young, but knew nothing about. They wouldn't let just anyone broadcast? That's appalling. Bravo for Bob! Go pirates! (Aren't they in Pittsburgh now?) Bob sounds like he was a wonderfully fun and creative man, someone I'd like to know. Good luck carrying on the flame. Christine phylida(that little at-sign, you know)hotmail.com
CommentsBravo - what a good tribute to such a well loved man - Nice to see so much time and effort go on a man who spent all his time and effort on us!! He'd be imbarresed with all the attention he's getting. Keep up all the good work Gavin!! Peter
CommentsWhen any programme can be said to be "great" it is testimony to all those involved. They are the programme! I hope that Bob is now be happily playing with all the gadgets ever created! A saddened Technofile viewer Martin

CommentsGreetings Gavin. Thanks for this page. I'm glad someone is doing something to honour Bob's memory and his achievements. I'd offer to help, but I'm a complete newbie, both to computers and e-mail/intenet. However, I will forward a copy of the e-mail I sent to Home Cinema Choice, as it details some of his early experiences; particularly about 'Radio Invicta'. russ.betts@ic24.net
CommentsAs one of those "SOUL PIRATES" It is with great sadness that I hear of Bob's death. As one of the jock's on Radio Invicta during the mid 1975 to 1981 I have fond memories of Bob aka Roger Tate .His talent at all things electronic certainly helped me appreciate this side of the business and that Bob went onto build one hell of an successfull career in the industry speaks volumes of the Man. Bob....God bless If any of my former Invicta colleagues would like to reminisce a little further .Drop me a mail. Steve Chandler
CommentsFrom Steve Chandler As a footnote to my earlier mail. My E-mail address is steve.burrows@ukgateway
CommentsI still cannot quite believe that Bob is no longer there. Like Steve Chandler, I first met Bob through Radio Invicta, the meetings were held at The Beehive, Commonside East, Mitcham. Dave Copping copping@ntlworld.com
CommentsGreetings Gavin. I would like to offer my condolences on the death of Bob Tomalski. Your site is a great tribute to his memory and I was very moved in reading it. Best wishes. J.M. Donovan (Mauritius)
CommentsBob will be sadly missed. As someone who had knowledge of Bob's private life and his Bisexuality, I am genuinely sad about the manner of his demise, as he deserved better. bp
CommentsRIP Hell be missed
CommentsIts been such a long time since I saw bob. 11th February 1994 to be exact, and I was stunned when I did a quick search to get in contact with him again of his sad passing. I will always have fond memories of our friendship, however brief, and remember his home full of video recorders - I have yet to meet anyone with such a passion for all technology. I was privileged enough to see him work on radio, and I believe it was him to introduced me to the delights of minidisk. My most outstanding memory was of the last Michael van Stratten show at the Dorchester, where I was privileged to meet so many famous people and seeing Bob work the room with every gadget known to man and bonding us all together. I have such happy memories of that day, I often recall it when chatting to friends. Bob, what can I say except that I am honoured to have known you, and only wish that my attempts to contact you again after all these years could be met with happier news. God bless you.
CommentsGreeeeetings! Good work to keep this site to honour Bob. He was a kind person who seemed to have a kind feeling for one and all.... and a smile upon his face. Watching what he did at Sky made me think; he really loved what he was doing. Working with gadgets... his interest all though life. I first learned to know Bob in 1975, and must say that I really will miss him. As will many others. An anecdote with a smile; During a holiday here in Sweden, me and my friends try to learn him a few Swedish words. Like police, mosquito, "damn" and such. One night I was talking to a couple and Bob was some 25 metres away. I tried to determin them he was actually British, on holiday in exotic Sweden. They didn't beleive me, so I shouted Bob.... say somehing in english. He answered, very loudly: HEY, DAMN POLICE-MOSQUITO!!!!!! In Swedish!!!!!!!!!!!!! The couple left laughing, beleiving he was after all Swedish.... Truly missed! Dick Gustavsson, Sweden
Commentshello: i did not know of bob until a few minutes ago, when a google search for PAL information brought me here. he was a bright light in the world and i am sorry he is gone. his friends' love and devotion does his memory honor. michael r. brown http://www.marymaclane.com
CommentsJust to say that I knew Bob for ten years suppling him with various "toys" from the Ham Radio world. In that time Bob gave me much advice on another hobby of mine, Home Entertainment. Today 24th July 2001 I thought about buying a new piece of kit and instantly thought of Bob as the only source of authority. Then I remembered. Hope your having a good time up there Bob. See you soon. Not too soon you'll understand. Martin Lynch G4HKS.

CommentsI had the pleasure, as MD at Wv Publications, to employ Bob for many years- his technical knowledge was unbelievable- whatever the product, whatever the problem, Bob always knew the solution. But more than that he was such a well respected and well loved man- always willing to help, to go the extra mile to assist one and all. Bob was an institution at WV and will always be greatly missed by all who knew him Rob Lehmann, WV Publications 1981-2002
