Also shown was a prototype DVD-A (DVD-Audio) player. The standard for DVD-A has recently been set by WG-4 of the DVD Forum. It will feature 96kHz sampling with 24 bit resolution and technology developed by Meridian Audio of the UK. Technics says it hopes to have the first DVD-A players on the market by the Spring of 1999. The new technology was shown support by software producer Warner Music. CEO AL McPherson said that consumers would purchase DVD-A for the "Added-value multi-channel, interactive and video content" as well as the enhanced audio quality. |
