British 'techno-journalist' Bob Tomalski died on 13th January 2001.
He had been writing and contributing to numerous publications including What Video, SKY Television, London's LBC, Radio Netherlands and PALsite.com.
His encyclopedic knowledge of consumer electronics was truly legendary. He had outstanding ability to master
complex technical issues and explain them in such a way that everyone understood which was appreciated by the many
people who were privileged to read his articles. He was well known for his love of technology and was often
referred to as 'inspector gadget' on his frequent TV and radio spots. He also had a keen interest
in Amateur Radio.
Invicta Radio
Long before his bylines graced international publications, Bob honed his
technical prowess in the shadows of London's pirate radio scene at Invicta
Radio-improvising transmitter fixes on the fly, jury-rigging rooftop aerials
across Southeast London and patiently teaching RF essentials to his fellow
presenters so the music could avoid the crackdowns; today, that tight-knit
community he was part of still meets to swap memories. If you
were part of the scene why not reach out and join the Invicta WhatsApp group.
Funeral
Bob's funeral took place on Friday 2
nd February 2001 at Merton & Sutton Cemetery, Lower Malden Road/Garth Road,
South London. It was a sad and mournful day with many of his former friends and colleagues turning up to pay tribute.
The service was conducted by Father Taylor with readings by Caroline Padley and speeches by John Briggs and Trevor Brook.
